Geologist
Position Objectives
ThermaSource, Inc. is a rapidly growing geothermal drilling organization located in Northern California. We are seeking graduate Geologists for site work at geothermal energy wells primarily in the western US. Geothermal energy is an established and growing source of clean, alternative energy in the U.S. and many areas around the world. Concern with climate change and the high global price of energy are creating new opportunities in the geothermal industry. Our logging geologists work in mobile laboratories at geothermal energy well sites. Oilfield-type equipment is used to drill geothermal production wells from 2,000 to 12,000 feet deep. Geothermal steam and hot water (250 - 500 deg. F) is used to generate electricity. 24 hour/day services is provided by two loggers, each working a twelve-hour shift. Work schedules may be irregular but will average about 20 days/month.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect rock cuttings and write thorough description of primary and alteration rock features based on microscopic examination
- Install, maintain and remove monitoring sensors and computers at the drilling rig
- Write daily reports summarizing rig activities, engineering and geological data
- Create the mud log (detailed geological and engineering record of the well)
- Communicate with site personnel and client by providing real-time geological and engineering information
Qualifications
- BS or BA in Geology/Earth science required
- Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs
- Must be able to work safely and effectively in an industrial environment
- Must be able to effectively handle cables, hand tools and various electro-mechanical devices
- Must follow safety procedures
